Miro Kadoic was born in Zagreb in 1962. He graduated from the Zagreb Academy of Music in 1986. He received several awards and prizes at various classical music competitions (i.e. First Federal Prize in the Clarinet Category in 1980; etc.) as well as the scholarship of the Musical Youth for Young Jazz Talents in 1982, etc. It the 1980s he started playing with blues bands (Podroom Blues Band) and cooperating with pop-rock musicians (Massimo Savic, Parni Valjak, Voodoobuddha, etc.). At the same time he started playing in jazz combos. He visited New York on several occasions where he studied under the mentorship of Reggie Workman andBlue Lou Marini (Blues Brothers Band) at the Manhattan School of Music. For several years he was a soloist and the first saxophone of the Radio Zagreb Big Band. At the same time he started leading jazz combos (Kadoic-Krizic Ansamble, Miro Kadoic Quartet). In 1993 he became a member of RTV Slovenia Big Band where he still works. As a soloist of the mentioned orchestra he played with many distinguished musicians (Johnny Griffin, Clark Terry, Erni Wilkins, N.H.O. Pedersen, Herb Pomeroy, Silvia Droste, Jerry Van Royen, Bosko Petrovic, Maria Schneider, David Murray, Bill Holman, etc). He is an active musician on both Slovenian and Croatian music scenes where he works with eminent musicians like Primoz Grasic, Matthias Daneck, Ratko Divjak, Kruno Levacic, Sasha Nestorovic, Davor Krizic and others. Miro Kadoic received the Status Award of the Croatian Association of Musicians for the best Croatian alt saxophonist in 1997, 2007. At the beginning of the 1990s, he was a leader of the quintet which mainly played his compositions, some of which were inspired by the Balkan folk music and other localities like Japan, the Arabian Peninsula and Africa. A result of that cooperation was presented on the CD "Dry" which was published by Megaton Records in 1995. He also played on many other CDs some of which are "50 Years of RTV Slovenia Big Band" (1994/1995), Peppino Principe - "Jazz Accordion" (1994), RTV Slovenia Big Band - "Zlatna sezdeseta" (1997), Ratko Divjak - "Caravan" (1998), Gabi Novak -"Pjesma je moj zivot" (2002), Bosko Petrovic - "Round Midnight" (2002), Boilers All Stars - 'That's It' (2003), "Bosko Petrovic with friends" (2004, Emil Spruk - "Without Return" (2005) Miro Kadoic is the founder and leader of the jazz quintet TEN DIRECTIONS which performs original compositions as well as modern compositions of the world-famous authors like Joe Henderson, Wayne Shorter, etc. A particular attention is given to the sound and arrangements while classical and exotic scales, unusual instrumentalization and rhythmic patters are being combined with elements of modern jazz. An example of such approach is a composition "Axel Moonshine". At the beginning of the year 2000, the quintet TEN DIRECTIONS recorded the CD "Vitro" which was published by Aquarius Records. The quintet performs in clubs and on various jazz festivals. His brand new project is a tentet MIROKADO ORCHESTRA while he also takes part in the BOILERS ALL STARS project both as a soloist and a composer/arranger. |
